VIDEO> The Spirit of Formula D Las Vegas

My recent trip to Las Vegas for round 5 of Formula Drift was one of minimal luxuries. Joe Ayala and I could only afford one night in a hotel and a rental car was out of the question. Day one, we got up around noon, grabbed some “breakfast” at the Blueberry Hill next to the hotel, and began our journey to the track at around two. The trek consisted of roughly 2-3 miles, on foot, in 108 degree weather. Luckily for us, we found a shopping cart to carry our backpacks, camera cases, laptop bags, and of course my skateboard. Before long, we had covered the cart in MotorMavens cards (gotta represent) and found fun stuff to do on the way, such as drifting and dirt dropping the cart on the side of Las Vegas Blvd. Joe and I had fun overall, but boy were we glad when an old woman (with a legit mustache) stopped and asked us if we needed a ride. She drove us about a quarter of a mile to the gift shop of Las Vegas Motor Speedway, complaining the whole time about how she would be late to work. Haha!

Anyone will tell you that there’s really no way to describe a trip to FD Vegas other than “hot.” I had a great time making new acquaintances, like when my buddy Josh Herron took us by Forrest Wang‘s shop to BS and look at all his rad cars. I also had fun catching up with friends, like when the amazing Drew Fishbein and Ross Fairfield from OMGDrift let Joe and I stay in their hotel room because 18andFamous Abbitt Wilkerson was too busy napping to answer his door. Haha!

Regarding the video, I apologize for taking so long to finish it. The song I chose has a small introduction that requires specific footage to go with the audio. Hobo and I had arranged beforehand to film what I needed while in Vegas. Unfortunately, the lovely security team at Las Vegas Motor Speedway was very strict about when and who could drive in or out of the gates, so we just couldn’t make it happen. That being said, I had to acquire the help of up-and-coming photographer, videographer, actor, and stunt driver Joe Ayala to finish the timeline.

Special thanks to Jason at ContourHD for hooking us up with the cameras. These things are a blast to use! Definitely one of the most fun moments of the trip was running around the grid, sticking cameras on cars. Thanks again!

Enjoy! :)

NEWSWORTHY> Riverside Adams Drift Night

Hey guys, my name is Lambert and I'm a new Motormavens photographer. I would explain what I like, hobbies, photography, etc but in a little later! Right now I want to talk about Riverside, California's Adams Drift Track. There are Time Attack and Drifting sessions EVERY WEEK. Time attack are on Tuesdays @6pm-9pm; Drifting are on Thursdays @6pm-9pm. The track is originally called "Adams Go-Kart Track" but ever since Thursday Drift Nights became popular, the name "Adams Drift Track" took over. You can legally drift on their 3/4 of a mile, 14 turns paved race circuit. Keyword: "LEGAL!" It's about time there are people who are making drifting safe and legal. Motorsport photographers and videographers can also practice their skills here too but with a price.   Read more...

VIDEO> MotorMavens POV Video Favorites!

As you can see from the above video, we thought it would be great to release some of our Point of View (POV) footage from last years “The Spirit of Irwindale“ to get you in the spirit of  the up coming Formula Drift Round 2 in Atlanta, Georgia. New playlists have been added to our MotorMavens YouTube Channel: Drifting Vids, Motormavens POV and Owle iphone adapter.  Our POV footage is raw and I only took out the boring stuff. Haha!

So enjoy and revisit all of your favorite videos that are up on the MotorMavens Channel.

We also just added Justins Shreeve’s “The Spirit of Long Beach.” He, Joe Ayala, Andy Sapp and Antonio are all going to be down at Road Atlanta this weekend, so you know our stories from the event will be pretty interesting!

Enjoy!

RANDOM DOPE> MotorMavens Lanyards at FD ATL!

This just in! We’re pretty excited that we just got our first batch of MotorMavens lanyards finished, thanks to our friends at AAA Silkscreen. (If you’re interested in making some lanyards for your own company or crew, go ahead and hit them up and tell them Antonio sent you!) We’ll have the MotorMavens lanyards available at the MotorMavens booth at Road Atlanta this weekend… look out for our vertical flags in the pit area! We’ll be near the Falken Tire rig!

We’ll also be adding them to our online shop sometime after the Formula D event this weekend… but right now, I’m super busy getting all my camera gear and booth supplies ready, and Andy is getting his black E46 BMW ready, because he’s gonna be driving Formula D Atlanta! Make sure to cheer him on if you see him! (Just to avoid any confusion, his car is the black BMW E46 with the polished Racing Dynamics wheels!)

RANDOM DOPE> Drift Sumi-e iPhone Game

During this off-season I teamed up with Objectify, a start-up in the San Francisco Bay Area on an iPhone / iPod Touch App called Drift Sumi-e (su-me-eh). We wanted to create an all-new game concept that incorporates authentic drifting dynamics with the beautiful art form of Sumi-e (that’s “su-me-eh”) brush painting. The game carries a calming Zen-like nature as you watch your art come to life, and a unique yet simple game play dynamic, specially designed for the touch controls.   Read more...

RANDOM DOPE> Get MotorMavens on your iPhone!

Hey MotorMavens readers! If you own an iPhone (or iPod Touch), make sure to get MotorMavens on your iPhone! Most of the people in the Motor Mavens Crew use iPhones, and we always check the site from our phones, just to see what's going on and who's commenting... and it just dawned on us that we should show our readers how to do it also! (duh, we're such dummies sometimes for not doing this sooner)

It's so simple, there are only 4 steps! The instructions are below. (With pictures, so you don't really need to read the instructions, hehe)   Read more...
