Even if they didn't attend the jam packed
Formula Drift Finale at
Irwindale Speedway, all drifting fans with an internet connection already know that
Daigo Saito has been smashing the competition repeatedly all year, ascending the ranks of the
Formula Drift Championship and ending
his first year in Formula D in First Place as the
Formula Drift Series Champion.
Here's a collection of some of our favorite images captured from the event!

The annual
WekFest gathering in
San Francisco always has something tasteful to offer. The event brings a sense of unity and community among car builders and enthusiasts from all parts of California, but especially in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Today's visit is no different. With hundreds of amazing builds to gaze upon packed into San Francisco's
Fort Mason Center, the event becomes a bit overwhelming. It really is a sensory overload.

The very first time I ever posted a video by Joshua Herron on the internet, I was still writing for Speedhunters, he had just finished editing his 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon video (he didn’t even have an HD camera yet), and Josh’s name was pretty much unknown in the automotive scene. Man, have things changed – and in such a short amount of time!
Our own design guru Andy Sapp just sent me a link to Josh’s latest video, which showcases his coverage of the Ken Block Gymkhana Grid Invitational at Irwindale Speedway on December 4th. I’m pretty sure that pretty much everyone will agree with me when I say that this is the_best_video I’ve ever seen from the ‘Hobo’ from Las Vegas! Check the footage of Ken Block’s Ford Fiesta, Toshiki Yoshioka rocking the Driftspeed S15 Silvia, Alex Pfeiffer and the Battle Version SC300, Mike Essa in his M5-powered E92 BMW, and Tanner Foust getting sprayed at the podium once again! (more…)

After spending an entire day in the scorching hot sun for the IDRC Finale, I felt sooo incredibly burnt out (literally) and didn't feel like doing anything at all. However, I couldn't exactly just relax at home, because I had plans to link up with some good friends for dinner and an after hours party. Needless to say, it was pretty hard to get out of bed early again (I had to be at IDRC by 7:30am on a weekend!) for the
GReddy Festival this past weekend, so I just made a leisurely day out of it.
Since I had plans to hit up the GReddy meet with my friend
Brian Urbano, we decided to cruise one of his Supras down to Orange County for the event. On this particular day, the vehicle of choice would be his black
JZA80 Supra twin turbo.

All Star Bash 2010 was off the chain! Everyone who has ever heard of the
JustDrift/Ziptied All Star Bash knows that it's like woodstock for drifters. All Star Bash is pretty much the West Coast's premier event that brings together the grassroots drifting community.

From compact commuter cars and SUVs, to GTs and supercars, most in our "scene" have seen just about every imaginable car "upgraded"- with the possible exception (in my case) of Zach Dunn's 2007 Volkswagen Passat. I must admit that I had yet to see one of these cars
done right. And, since I seem to be in the mood for confession, I'm not going to lie, I've never been the greatest fan of VWs. However, the more I see of them (especially this one), the more they're starting to grow on me. Zach's 2007 Passat was the first I'd seen that had been slammed and enhanced with superior fitment - and that made all the difference in the world.

This has been an extremely busy weekend for the Motor Mavens crew in Southern Cali. Travis Hodges and I went out to bake in the sun at the IDRC Season Finale at Fontucky Dragway (aka Auto Club Dragway/California Speedway) all day Saturday. We'll show you some of what we captured at IDRC soon enough, but first I wanted to shine a light on a special event that took place today (Sunday) at Irwindale Speedway.
Even though I was still exhausted and burnt from our skin cancerous Saturday in Fontana, I somehow dragged myself out of bed and prepared my camera gear for yet another day at the track. While I found it extremely hard to pry myself from the ice cold air conditioning blasting throughout my house, I reminded myself that I made a commitment to show up. My friend
Luke Pakula kept dropping me friendly reminders about the event the
Slide Assassins guys were throwing at
Irwindale Speedway, so I wanted to come through and show support of their event, on behalf of the Motor Mavens crew.
After all, the Motor Mavens movement is all about supporting grassroots drifting! Everyone on our team does their best to show how much we genuinely care about the scene by being out there as much as we possibly can. Actions speak louder than words, so hopefully people will notice that our site doesn't only cover the big events like Formula D and All Star Bash... Motor Mavens shows love by shining a light on some of the smaller events as well. And luckily for us, some of the grassroots drifters have been showing us love back!
We just can't tell you enough how much it means to us when we see people
showing their support of the site by rocking our stickers on their cars, by
leaving comments on our blog posts, by
reposting our links onto different forums,
blogs,
Facebook and
Twitter pages! It is especially means a lot to us when people voice their support when they see us at events. We love that people appreciate our site, because we put a whole lot of heart and hard work into it!

More All Star Bash!!! We love it, so Motor Mavens keeps it coming! Most of the people in the MotorMavens crew live in different states... but yesterday after everyone got off work, we were able to put our photos together and organize them!
So here you go... enjoy the photos!

All over the USA, this has been a pretty exciting weekend for grassroots drifting enthusiasts. On the East Coast, many of our good friends made the trek to
Virginia International Raceway for the
North vs South drifting competition. However, in Southern California, the hottest thing happening is definitely the
Just Drift/Zip Tied All Star Bash drifting festival at
Willow Springs International Raceway. I've been to many All Star Bash events in the past, but it just doesn't seem to get old for me. In fact, the more events I go to, it keeps getting better and better. In the United States, the All Star Bash is the closest you can get to the actual look and feeling of an authentic Japanese grassroots drifting event, like the legendary
Drifting Matsuri events at
Ebisu Circuit or the regional
MSC events.
Willow Springs is in the high desert - the Mojave Desert to be exact. It's two hours north east of Los Angeles, and the summertime sun just seems to sear anyone or anything it sees. As I write this, the event is far from over! In fact, we're about to leave the hotel in a few minutes to get back to the track, where the course just went hot - literally and figuratively.
This weekend's All Star Bash was exciting because there were drivers and cars that came from all over the United States just to drift with California's best. Cars came from as far as the San Francisco Bay Area, the Pacific Northwest, Arizona, Las Vegas, Chicago, and even South Dakota!
