As you witnessed in the
first part of coverage from the
Bay Area AE86 meet at
One Toyota of Oakland, the gathering was a great mix of both
hachi rokus and other machines. While more and more cars rolled in, it became harder to pay attention to each car individually. And, although it seemed as if there was almost an equal ratio of AE86s to dope non-AE86s, everyone remembered what car the day was commemorating.

With the Formula Drift series starting up in only three and a half weeks, this means that the Pro-Am series will be starting up as well. New drivers from around the country will be competing for an opportunity to drive on the next level. One such an event, is Thunder Drift, held just outside Willows California.

It all started at six o'clock, the morning of Saturday the 18th, waking up to the sound of my alarm. I would have had to pack my gear, drive to
Justin Shreeve's house, pick him up, and then start the 3 1/2 hour drive down to Willows, California for the Team Tandem Battle at Thunderhill… but i slept in.
Luckily for us, it was a two day event, so we tried again on Sunday. Haha! About two hours into the drive, we debated whether or not it was a good idea to make the trip. The clouds had been pouring rain, hail, and snow the entire time with no signs of it stopping any time soon. (Check out this proof of the amazing weather on our way home -
Snow Drift Pt. 2) As we pulled into Willows and towards the track, we noticed the vibrant blue sky and a familiar sun peeking through the clouds just above Thunderhill.

If you remember, back in September of 2009, MotorMavens was the first to break news of Conrad Grunewald‘s brand new, Hankook Tire sponsored, Chevrolet Camaro SS entering the Formula D Championship. At the time, it was still only a concept and was still being built by Luke Lonberger at BLU808. All we had were a few mid-build photos and renderings, but they still had all of the Motor Mavens readers salivating!
Well, she’s come a long way since then! She’s up and running and looking HOT. While we were checking Facebook this morning, we spotted this video of her first drift runs at Laguna Seca during some “cone course tuning.” Can you say BEAST?! Running 305 wide tires and lighting ‘em up in third gear from 1500 rpm all the way to the redline with no problem, they can definitely check “power” off the to do list. I heard some people on Facebook saying that this car had 2300 HORSEPOWER?! Is that really true?! Twenty three hundred?!?!?!
There’s not really much more we can say about it that you can’t see and hear for yourself. Good Luck to CG Racing and BLU808 with this beautiful new competition Camaro SS! We can’t wait for the Pony Wars to get restarted at Formula Drift!
