PERSPECTIVE> Owning a Bugatti Veyron

Ever say to yourself, "Damn, that dude with the Bugatti Veyron must get all the women"? Well, I have - and it was more than enough incentive for me to desperately wish I owned one of these engineering marvels...but, the cost of ownership for this 253 mph speed machine is a bit different from owning a 1992 Honda Civic. So, if you're actually in the market for a brand new Bugatti Veyron, read this before you sign that massive check over to Bugatti. And, if you're reading this and you actually own a Veyron, I'll take a moment to ask you to please be my bestest friend.   Read more...

SHOPAHOLIC> Lambo Lords of the Underground

The name that KC and Kevin Howeth picked for their werks -- Underground Racing – carries more than a whiff of irony today.

Like, how stealth can you be when two of the over-the-top, twin-turbo Lamborghini Gallardos you’ve built for your customers practically own the Texas Mile standing-mile shootout? (Longtime customer Kyle Bennet did 241 mph last summer and Richard Holt’s lighter Superleggera killed the two-fifty mark this past March.)

While the West Coast members of our crew spent the weekend surrounded by Ferraris, MotorMavens sharpshooter James Evins and I visited Underground Racing's Charlotte, NC headquarters last week. That's right, I said ONE THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED FIFTY horsepower.   Read more...

COVERAGE> Kop Hill Hillclimb 2009

During the early 1900s it was one of the largest motorsport events in the UK. The hill itself is a pretty straight road, but it's over 1000 metres long to the summit and rises to 100 metres high. Big crowds would line the edges of the road to watch drivers and motorcyclists try to achieve the fastest times and speeds up the hill. Unfortunately, as the speeds got faster, so did the risks, and on the 28th of March 1925 an accident involving a spectator led to the end of the original Kop Hill event and led to the RAC banning all motorsports on public roads.

On the 26th and 27th of September, organisers decided to do a Kop Hill Commemorative Run to bring the sounds and sights and even smells (mmm, Castrol R) back to Kop Hill again. Over 250 cars and bikes were there, ranging in age from the 1900s right up to 1980s and even some very special modern cars.   Read more...

OH SNAP> Antonio + Bugatti Veyron= Ticket

The night before we left for Formula D Las Vegas, we were invited out to a bar in Old Town Pasadena with some friends, for a private party hosted by Rolls Royce Beverly Hills. There were many high end cars parked outside, but none captured our attention like this gorgeous Bugatti Veyron. (more…)
