Life has been extremely busy for me in the past several months but, back in June, I caught a ride with some friends out to the Augusta Airport in Thompson, Georgia for the first-ever drift event at the facility. As I am sure anyone who has ever drifted at an airport can attest, the vibe is just unmatched. Planes landing, helicopters buzzing around, cars ripping down the runway at full-lock…there is just something about that you cannot beat.
To me, drifting is the most intense thing you can do in a vehicle. I always try to make my videos reflect that and give everyone a touch of that excitement…even if you have never been behind the wheel of a drift car. If you don’t like death metal, this video might not be for you. But, if you brave what lies ahead, I think you will come out on the other side excited about drifting. (more…)

Keeping our coverage of Round 2 of Formula Drift at Road Atlanta coming, we bring you more photos of the Pro Am rounds as well as the main event. Road Atlanta is a unique venue in that it is a world class road course that sees everything from the likes of Le Mans prototype cars to your neighbor who enjoys exercising his right foot every now and again. The Formula Drift weekend is no different - you get a mix of high-dollar, corporate-backed monster machines competing door to door with a backyard creation that you saw built from the ground up on your local forum.

For the MotorMavens Crew, Round Two of the
2011 Formula Drift Championship at
Road Atlanta represented a lot of hard work, and about 6 or 7 total hours of sleep for the entire weekend. Since our Associate Editor
Jonathan "J-Mac"
McWhorter lives in the Atlanta area, he volunteered to be the team leader for the weekend, and coordinated everything for the out-of-state crew members that would be flying in for the event.
Some people may not realize this, but Road Atlanta is a very special place for the MotorMavens Crew. Anyone who knows MotorMavens co-founder
Andy Sapp can tell you that he has a very fond place in his heart for Road Atlanta. Even though Andy coined the
now famous phrase Keep Drifting Fun, he has been drifting
competitively at Formula D events in Atlanta ever since 2004 - the
very first event in the Formula Drift series. Ever.

It's true. I'm overdue again on posting my event coverage. This time, the coverage is from the
Formula D Pro Am that took place at
Irwindale Speedway this past weekend. However, I don't think it's a bad thing necessarily.
While all the other media people that attended the event (let's be honest; there weren't
that many) rushed home
to be the first to post photos on their websites, blogs, Twitters, and whatnot... I decided to spend time hanging out with my friends instead. I love that I was able to do this and not feel bad (this would be
absolutely unacceptable behaviour if I was writing for a different website). But everyone in the Motor Mavens Crew understands. Hell, some of them were even there with me for all the non-car related stuff we did that weekend... like rolling 30+ heads deep to
Dino's in Covina for some spicy grilled chicken; or taking Yoshi on a wild goose chase to meet up with some import models at a cafe in OC; or using trucks and trailers with drift cars loaded onto them to make parking difficult in the small parking lot of
Flappy Jacks on Route 66, just so that Ray from
Garage Autohero could get his traditional American style Sunday breakfast
and complain that coffee in California sucks compared to Seattle's. LOL. Oh yeah, but somehow in between all the chillin we did with all our out of town friends that came to Pro Am, we
did somehow manage to squeeze in a little bit of time to take some photos.
