RANDOM DOPE> Making the Transparent 370Z Shell

I received an email from Tobin Honda of DSPORT Magazine earlier today, saying, “Check this video out!!! This looks dope!”

Since my Inbox gets flooded with hundreds of emails every day, I normally don’t take the time to click ALL the video links my friends send me, because I just can’t get to them all, and still get all my work done! I don’t even know what made me click on the link to this video, as the email didn’t provide much of a teaser or explanation about what I’d be watching.

However, for some reason, I decided to click on the video link in Tobin’s email… and I’m glad I did. Did you check the video out?! That was dope! Now most of you may be thinking, “MotorMavens doesn’t normally put blatant advertising such as this in their editorial lineup… what gives?” Well, we sure didn’t receive any form of compensation, endorsement, or product giveaways from Shell. Hell, I don’t even know where to buy Shell Helix… I’m not necessarily interested in this video as a form of advertising.

What interests ME is… damn! They made a CLEAR Z34 Nissan 370Z! That joint was straight up TRANSPARENT! If Wonder Woman had a car, that would be her whip. For sure! The technology and creativity utilized to create this video was just INSANE. It’s pretty crazy to see what big companies can do when they have an excess of money at their disposal.

However, if I had their financial resources to burn, I’d FOR SURE construct a clear AE86 Sprinter Trueno hatchback – with real RS Watanabe Type R wheels and a life size, functioning 4AG engine under the hood. DAMN! The concept of this project is so dope! And random. (Hence the name of the post category.)

COVERAGE> Remix Car Show and More XDC

It has been about a week since the newly formed Remix Events series debuted at Irwindale Speedway alongside the Xtreme Drift Circuit's first event. I'm pretty sure that after seeing the results and the feeling coming out of the first event, people in the drifting community seem to be pretty excited about the XDC Series, and I'm happy about that. It looks as if XDC is going to provide a good arena for amateur drifters to battle their way into the professional Formula D series.

Meanwhile, I'm also looking forward to seeing more from Remix. I'll be pretty honest - I didn't spend as much time as I would have liked to in the car show area looking at cars, because I was busy in the Irwindale grid area talking to and hanging out with all the grassroots drifters from miscellaneous regions of the United States while they were visiting Southern Cali. However, from what I've seen thus far at the Remix Show, I like it! The entire event had an intriguing vibe to it... for those of us "experiencing" the show for the first time, it was definitely different and fun. The first thing we noticed is that there were a hell of a lot of girls at this event - everything from high end "name brand" models to no-name "new talent." As I mentioned previously, I decidedly focused most of my attention on the drifters on the track and on the grid, but in all honesty, there were quite a few times I had to double take and say "damnnnnn" when I saw certain pieces of eye candy sweetening up the show. (This was definitely the type of show that our boy Yoshi Shindo would go bananas at, I'm not gonna lie.)

Back to the cars, I have to say that there were a lot of really impressive looking cars at the show. Everyone is stepping up their wheel game, and it's awesome!   Read more...

CARSPOTTING> Drag Mazda RX2 at IDRC in Fontana

One nice thing about living in Southern California is that there isn't a shortage of events to attend if you like cars. A couple weeks ago, a few LA-based Motor Mavens went out to the IDRC drag racing event at California Speedway in Fontana because our friend Tobin Honda wouldn't shut up about it. In fact, Tobin personally called and texted me the night before the event to make sure I was going to attend, and he even texted in the morning to make sure we would show up! That's one persistent guy, haha! Here's some background on IDRC - it's a drag racing series that's run by Hard Media Inc, the same people who produce D-Sport Magazine.   Read more...

NEWSWORTHY> Southeast Drift, IDRC and Spocom Show!

Today, while some of our MotorMavens Atlanta crew is going out to the Southeast Drift event at Turner Field, some of our Cali-based crew is going out to the IDRC drag race event happening at Fontana CA. We just received our new MotorMavens stickers, so be sure to hit us up for a sticker if you see any of our crew at these events!

On Sunday, the SpoCom Show - the Sport Compact Automotive Tradeshow is back at the Long Beach Convention Center (Sunday, June 14th, 2009 from 11am-6pm).¬† In talking with the people at SpoCom, they’re saying this is going to be much bigger than last year! ¬†SpoCom has added over 76,000 sq ft to fit in all the sickest cars and hottest girls (they say there will be over a hundred import models there for those who go to shows just for the T&A). We hear there will be a bikini contest, a lingerie show, and our buddy Tobin Honda from D-Sport Magazine tells us they will be conducting a model search at their booth, so make sure not to miss it!

Of course SpoCom is known for having top notch manufacturers there. This year won’t be an exception, with companies like Falken, AEM, HKS, Eibach, Sparco, ACT, Eneos, and KW Suspension (and more!) bringing you all their latest and greatest goods.

We’ll be there getting killer footage and photos for everyone out of driving distance from the 562 area code. If you’re in Southern Cali though, make sure to get out to Spocom and hit us up for a MotorMavens sticker!
