I've been working in video production since 2005, and have been producing drift videos for the Drift Posse (www.driftposse.com) since 2008. Joining Motor Mavens Crew in 2010 is a major milestone in my videography career, and I'm definitely excited to improve my skills with the help of some of the ultra talented members working with MotorMavens, as well as to help out wherever I can!! Stay frosty, Mavens!!

VIDEO> Cyrious Look at 2011 Slowed Down

2011 was a pretty spectacular year of drifting for me. Being a Canadian, I got to see a whole heck of a lot of America this year – not only from all the different rounds of Formula Drift that I and the rest of the Drift Posse participated in, but also as a result of a tour that saw me flying around the country for three months. GALLERY> Rucksters Customs Brings the Ruckus!

As some of you may (or may not) know, I'm definitely not from California. So when I found out that I would be going to California for a week, I knew that I'd have to check out as much stuff as I could possibly get around to checking out while I was there. Usually, when I go somewhere in the name of drift events, I don't really get to act like a tourist very much since the team is always busy taking care of race car stuff - but there was no race car stuff this time so I knew this was going to be my best chance to really see some cool stuff.

Once I got into town, my buddy Nick Soo suggested that we check out the Rucksters Customs garage. My experience with Honda Ruckus scooters was fairly limited, to say the least. I had seen a dude cruising on a fairly unmodified one at Drift Mania, and then this year at Formula Drift in Florida, I saw a stretched out Ruckus for the first time cruising around the paddock area. I was definitely intrigued but I was unable to get a really good look at the machine.

As soon as we pulled up to the Rucksters shop, it was clear we were at the right place. I figure that when your front door is this legit, you must have some awesome stuff behind it. We were greeted by shop manager Hai who was hanging out at the front counter, and he was more than happy to show us around the place and really school us on some crazy Ruckus knowledge.   Read more...

VIDEO> Surviving The Gauntlet: Formula Drift NJ

I don’t think the Formula Drift creative team could’ve done a better job naming Round 4 of Formula Drift at Wall Speedway. ‘The Gauntlet’ was a round of pure destruction and chaos both on and off the track. With cars blowing motors, diffs, and smashing into the wall above the steep bank, watching FD at Wall Speedway was almost like watching a demolition derby with drift cars. Of course, Mother Nature made an appearance, bringing a torrential downpour and some crazy wind which wreaked havoc on the Need For Speed booth. (more…)

VIDEO> Formula D Palm Beach with The Drift Posse

I called this last video  ”A Couple Days On Planet Jupiter.” Weird title, right? I picked it because really, it felt like we were on another planet for a weekend. Everything was completely different from any of our previous racing experiences, right down to the sand-floored pit area. Combine that with the hot weather, the hot ladies (of which there were many), and the otherworldly atmosphere of Formula Drift, and you’ve got yourself the recipe for a very foreign place to a bunch of Canadian drift junkies. VIDEO> Canadian Snow Drifting With An AE86

From what I can tell most of our Mavens live in warm places somewhere in the USA, with very little snow to speak of except for that white stuff that collects at the top of the mountains. For those of us here in Ontario, Canada however, snow is something we’ve grown up with; at this point it would be weird for most of us to see a winter without it.

With that being said, we here in the Drift Posse camp have always been very much of the belief that our annual winter practice regimen is what keeps our boys fresh in their drivers’ seats for the upcoming drift season, and this year is no different. (more…)

VIDEO> XDC Desert Drift Showdown in Phoenix

The last leg of the Toronto-based Drift Posse‘s first adventure into the Southwestern United States took place at the final round of XDC in Phoenix, Arizona. It was really fun getting to experience the different kind of climate that Arizona gets compared to California, even though the places are so close together (technically speaking). In California there seemed to be an ever-present but never bothersome breeze going on that made things much more pleasant, even though the sun was pretty damn hot. In Arizona, however, the air didn’t really move around at all, so it really served as a reminder that we actually were in the middle of a desert, kinda. We were fortunate enough to have a tent and two big trailers to keep out of the sun, but some of the other teams were not quite so lucky, and resorted to hanging out in the shadows of their trucks, or the little stucco building that served as a bathroom. VIDEO> Cyrious Irwindale Experience Part One

Let me start out by saying that the past two months have been the nuttiest two months of drifting insanity that I’ve experienced to this point. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m still relatively fresh on the scene. Many people have crazy schedules packed with drifting/other stuff, so I’m not trying to imply that I’m a special case or anything, but this is the first time that I have consistently lived the drifting life every weekend. Of course, I did it as a camera guy (not as a driver); but I was completely immersed in the life nonetheless.

Really, it feels like it all started on the weekend of August 15th at Autodrome Montmagny with DMCC (Drift Mania Canadian Championships) Round 4 – which I covered on here a little while back. A few weeks later, on September 5th, we returned to the province of Quebec for DMCC Round 5 at Autodrome St. Eustache. This event was kinda weird. That’s the only way I can put it. The weather was really not holding up its end of the bargain the whole time – it rained for the better part of the actual race day. Also, the particular layout wasn’t popular with some of the drivers – which caused a little more than the usual drama.

VIDEO> 24 Hours of DriftMania

Making this video was absolutely insane, but an awesome experience.  Drift Mania Canadian Championship Round 4 was the only night-time round scheduled for DMCC this year, and it was my first time really doing a night-time event outside of my hometown. (It was also my first time really partying all night outside of my hometown, but that’s probably for a different post.) The most staggering thing about this event was that the entire event took place on one day, with all the practice sessions and qualifying during the day, and competition starting in the evening and going into the night.

In this video, the Drift Posse team is represented by Brad Carlton driving a grey and black 240sx s13 and Pat Cyr in his trusty F20 turbo-powered hachiroku. Some other notable appearances include Matt Waldin in his flame spitting 350z, who once again proved that his motto of stone cold consistency is a proven formula to getting wins. Surprisingly, Fred Girard and the Rockstar Energy 240sx decided to put a happy note on what has otherwise been a pretty tough season by taking the #2 podium spot.

VIDEO> XDC Round 4 – Englishtown, NJ

Let me start this off by saying that it was a blast to return to the United States for a drift event this year. It’s been a solid year at LEAST (maybe a year and a bit even??!) since I’ve been in the Land of Freedom and Hotdogs, and I gotta say it was good to be back. This video covers the one Drift Posse member who was available to make it out to XDC Round 4 at Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey; Pat Cyr in his F20 powered AE86 coupe, as well as the stylings of some of the top players in the Xtreme Drift Circuit today. This includes event winner Matt Waldin in the two-tone 350z, Steve Angerman in the Gardella Racing Solstice, and the series points leader Chelsea Denofa in the wicked green NST BMW E36.

The competition was fun and everything, but honestly the most exciting part for me was just being in a different country, and realizing really how different our cultures can be, even though we only live a few hours away from each other. The biggest and most obvious difference though, is food. Crossing the border into the States is kinda like crossing this line of sugar, chips, and fast food, and I love it. My first order of business once we hit a gas station across the border was to buy myself some Mountain Dew Code Red, along with some Milk Duds; with a 5th Avenue Bar for dessert (I can still feel my teeth hurting). It may surprise you, but none of these is available in Canada, and as a self-proclaimed sweets aficionado, you can imagine that I was in heavenly bliss for basically the rest of the ride to New Jersey. VIDEO> DMCC Rd. 3 at ICAR Motorsports Complex

Before we get to the video hinted at in the title, I’ve decided to take a moment to introduce myself and my team for those who may not recognize me.

My name is Dan Cyr, and I’m the guy behind the Cyrious Productions lens and computer screen. I’ve been following drifting in Canada for several years now, riding along with my brother, AE86 driver Pat Cyr and the Drift Posse. We’ve been at drift events from Quebec to Edmonton and in between, as well as a few down south… You can be sure to see us at more of them this year.

I’m not going to go into the meaty details of this event, since the actual Driftmania Canadian Championship event coverage will be taken care of by fellow Ontario MotorMaven Jover Papag, who was an absolute blast to hang out with all weekend, as well as being wicked help on the track.

What I can tell you though is that the event was great, and the whole team had piles of fun. This round was the first ever round of Drift Mania held at ICAR Motorsports Complex at the Mirabel Airport. It was a pretty neat looking track, being extremely flat and paved entirely in concrete. (more…)
