NEWSWORTHY> Grunewald Camaro SS Test at Laguna Seca

If you remember, back in September of 2009, MotorMavens was the first to break news of Conrad Grunewald‘s brand new, Hankook Tire sponsored, Chevrolet Camaro SS entering the Formula D Championship. At the time, it was still only a concept and was still being built by Luke Lonberger at BLU808. All we had were a few mid-build photos and renderings, but they still had all of the Motor Mavens readers salivating!

Well, she’s come a long way since then! She’s up and running and looking HOT. While we were checking Facebook this morning, we spotted this video of her first drift runs at Laguna Seca during some “cone course tuning.” Can you say BEAST?! Running 305 wide tires and lighting ’em up in third gear from 1500 rpm all the way to the redline with no problem, they can definitely check “power” off the to do list. I heard some people on Facebook saying that this car had 2300 HORSEPOWER?! Is that really true?! Twenty three hundred?!?!?!

There’s not really much more we can say about it that you can’t see and hear for yourself. Good Luck to CG Racing and BLU808 with this beautiful new competition Camaro SS! We can’t wait for the Pony Wars to get restarted at Formula Drift!

  1. This thing looks bad ass. Cant wait to see him go up against JTP and JR. It would be awesome if the Mopar charger or challenger were still in the mix too.

  2. PLAGUE MURKZ

in typical american style we just try to over power the competition and screw who has the better technique, lol. is 2300hp really necessary in drifting? how much technique do you really need to swing the back out on a car with 2300hp?

If that car is really 2300 HP sure the rear’s gonna kick out easy but won’t it be hard to control? Seems to me like all of the skill would be in trying to keep that monster from spinning in circles.

  4. No. There was a rumor on the dyno readings due to an error. The car is over 600 hp at the wheels.

More updates coming soon. Thanks Motormavens as usual for the posting.

i think this car actually looks hard/crappy for drifting even though it has a lot of power…it seems like its un balanced and heavy, but im sure with the right skills and money you can make any thing drift good

Come on. 2300HP? Not even a REMOTELY believable rumor. You guys should know better what it takes to make 2300HP.

600 HP is more than enough to get the job done but 2300!? That was a freakin’ funny car dyno figure! The car looks beautiful…not that I would be expected to see it…LOL!

  8. Car doesn’t look all that dialed in yet.. Understandable since it’s brand new, but I wouldn’t have shown a video like that to the world.

Can’t wait to see the pony car battles this year!

  9. hahaha yeah, Ross had me thinking for a few minutes about whether the 2300 mark was a joke or not, but I never took it REALLY seriously…

    Props on the build Luke!

  10. I like seeing the development and putting it through it’s knocks. Definitely looks a bit rough around the edges at the moment but it’ll be awesome to see it perform when the season begins!
