VIDEO> Arizona’s Tribute To The Unknowns

Trial By Fire – Phoenix International Raceway, Arizona from Dax Rodriguez on Vimeo.

This is a video about unknowns. It stars a race track that is nestled deep in the desert of Tolleson, Arizona; it also stars a collection of individuals who are infamous outside the state of Arizona. However, the track that we know as PIR (Phoenix International Raceway) is on par with most of the premier drifting tracks in the country. It features a high speed entry, technical transitions, and risky moves in every turn.

The group of people that meet at this track are passionate about drifting and the spirit of the sport. The carefree and reckless nature of drifting brings them together, and their track days here are about more than just cars. Days filled with drifting on this Arizona race track hold a special sentiment in the community‚Äôs hearts. (more…)

VIDEO> XDC Desert Drift Showdown in Phoenix

The last leg of the Toronto-based Drift Posse‘s first adventure into the Southwestern United States took place at the final round of XDC in Phoenix, Arizona. It was really fun getting to experience the different kind of climate that Arizona gets compared to California, even though the places are so close together (technically speaking). In California there seemed to be an ever-present but never bothersome breeze going on that made things much more pleasant, even though the sun was pretty damn hot. In Arizona, however, the air didn’t really move around at all, so it really served as a reminder that we actually were in the middle of a desert, kinda. We were fortunate enough to have a tent and two big trailers to keep out of the sun, but some of the other teams were not quite so lucky, and resorted to hanging out in the shadows of their trucks, or the little stucco building that served as a bathroom. COVERAGE> PGP Wars Episode 1 – Tandem Menace

If you are at all a drift fan, you have probably watched old Option videos on VHS or you have seen videos on YouTube or posted around the Internet. At some point you and your friends have dropped your jaws and yelled at the screen after witnessing truly epic driving. Unreal angle, physics-defying early entries, and team tandems that looked like they were choreographed in a dance studio - all things you would scream at the top of your lungs for. Well, if you were one of the many spectators in attendance at PGP (Pacific Grand Prix), then you witnessed some of the same electrifying driving that you would expect from one of those videos from way back when.   Read more...

CARSPOTTING> Purple People Eater RPS13

I can hear the theme song to Welcome Back, Kotter playing in the background as I type this. I'd like to apologize for my absence to all the people that actually like my work... Mom and Dad, I'm looking at you. To everyone that only comes to Motor Mavens for the photos, this one is for you guys from someone you don't know, never met and probably won't ever meet. Thank God it's Friday!

Don't be confused, this just isn't a "welcome back to the site" for me. Oh no, this is a huge welcome back to fresh cars built by cool people on real world budgets. Welcome back to grassroots drifting and sick street cars, which is what this site was built upon and the whole reason why we keep pushing forward. Like a skilled surgeon, Mike Burns and company have suited up in their drifting scrubs to save the all important life of grassroots drifting; but instead a sharpened scalpel, his finely tuned instrument is this super rad RPS13 Nissan 240SX.   Read more...

COVERAGE> AZ Drag & Drift at Firebird Raceway

Arizona drifting - two words that aren't put together very often by people. However, the drifting scene is strong in AZ, and it's about time we MotorMavens shine a little much-deserved light on the grassroots drifters out in the land of desert and cactus. Firebird Raceway is the backdrop for Arizona's monthly AZ DRIFT Drag and Drift event, with all types of drivers from amateur to professional coming out to practice and showoff their skills. With it being summer in Arizona, we're very reluctant to make a trip outside into the 109 degree heat. 109 degrees! However being blessed with beautiful weekend weather it was a perfect day to take photos and it seemed like everyone was out at track either driving or spectating.   Read more...
