Formula D LBC: Colors of the Industry from BOWLS on Vimeo.
This morning, I received a Facebook link from a group of guys who are friends of the MotorMavens Crew. While I certainly thought we weren’t going to run any more videos from Formula D Long Beach on our site (we just can’t run every single video that comes out, you know)… I thought that this video should go up anyway, as the last piece from Long Beach, as we move towards our coverage of Formula D Atlanta.
This video was produced by our friends from Bowls LA. If you don’t know what Bowls is, then you need to step your game up! Bowls LA is one of the coolest shops in Southern Cali, blending streetwear, kicks, and motor-driven lifestyle… located smack dab in the middle of the historic SGV, nestled in between the San Gabriel Valley foothills and the “watch out for door dings and crazy drivers” part of town where everyone goes for Southern Cali’s best Chinese food.
I thought this video was cool, because it was a little different than the normal “car porn” videos that people normally make – this one had a simple, yet different concept. It shows a few of the movers and shakers in the automotive aftermarket industry, and asks a single question… “what’s your favorite car color?”

The first photo in our series is from one of the practice sessions. I think the practice sessions were actually a lot cooler and funner to watch at times than some of the tandem bouts, because it felt like freestyle drifting chaos within the confines of the white cement barriers and tire stacks that lined the streets of the LBC. Formula Drift 2010 Round 1 from Justin Shreeve Films on Vimeo.
I really gotta give it up to our boy Justin Shreeve. A few weeks before Formula D Long Beach, Justin called me and told me that he wanted to come down and shoot the official MotorMavens video coverage of Formula D Long Beach. I told him that we had other video shooters that were planning on attending the event, but I’d love to see what he could put together. By the looks of the Evergreen Drift video Justin shot recently, I knew whatever video footage he shot at Long Beach would probably be good!
Justin worked really hard to create this video. I saw him running all over the place at Long Beach, hustling to get artistic shots and plenty of new looks in his footage. At one point, he even brushed up on a sharp piece of scaffolding, cutting his upper arm open and tearing the sleeve of his favorite shirt. Justin also told me that while he was down in Long Beach shooting, he received a phone call from his boss at a skate company back in Oregon, informing him that he would be getting laid off. Damn! That’s horrible news to receive on a road trip for sure, but that only pushed Justin to work harder and give this video all he had.
This goes out to the hungry people out there… to those willing to take chances and put everything on the line so they can chase after their dreams… to those that stay motivated to make something better of themselves… THIS VIDEO IS FOR YOU.
This is what the Motor Mavens Movement is all about… illustrated by the lens of Justin Shreeve.
RESPECT!

This past weekend was certainly an exciting one. I was excited to see all the new cars that were debuting at Long Beach, as well as seeing a lot of good friends from different parts of the world, even if it would be only for a brief moment. Unfortunately, when you're working at the event like I am, you're usually hustling about, going from one spot to the next, and you don't have as much time as you'd like to just chill and spend time with good friends. This event was definitely like that for me.
I was trying to juggle shooting photos for the website while overseeing the Motor Mavens Crew's event promotions efforts. Not an easy task! Also, on the Saturday of the event, I was asked to help out with the filming of The Grid, which is a UK-based motorsports television show that airs in 120 countries around the world! And... on top of all that, we debuted the new MotorMavens X DSTROYR "Follow The Leader" shirt at our booth, which was managed by super designer Jon Chase, the creative genius behind the brands DSTROYR and Famous Stars and Straps. I and the entire Motor Mavens Crew definitely had our hustle mode switched ON this weekend! Read more...

FormulaD Long Beach Preview video from Robert Strohmeyer on Vimeo.
This was certainly a busy weekend! On Sunday after Formula D Long Beach, the members of the Motor Mavens Crew from out of state traveled back to their respective homes, while I took friends back to the airport, briefly stopped in to attend a family party, and then worked late into the night on the filming of an episode of Mobil 1′s television series, The Grid, which is televised in 120 countries.
Right now, we’re all busy working on putting our photos from the event together, but before we put our photo gallery up, I wanted to share this video from our friend Rob Strohmeyer. Rob cut this video together really quick – he did it overnight on Friday night, after Formula D qualifying! He’s still working on his full length video edit, but check out the footage he’s put together thus far!
