This last trip to Las Vegas for
Formula Drift was one hell of an eventful weekend. With a new course layout and drastically changing weather, the conditions took a toll on a lot of the teams. There were lots of tire scraps and car parts littered around the track when the day was done, not to mention the plethora of tire smoke from these high horsepower monsters. The sweltering heat and the freak 45 minute rain storm made it an interesting day at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. With extremely fast entry speeds and high speed turns, the new course layout took out many cars from the running all weekend long.

The MotorMavens Crew is once again back at the
Las Vegas Motor Speedway for
Formula Drift After Dark. For those of you that couldn't make it, consider yourself lucky that you don't have to deal with the searing desert heat. Luckily it's not as hot as it was last year, but we're still baking in the sun so we can bring you imagery of whats current in Formula Drift.

The second round of the 2012
Formula Drift Championship took place at
Road Atlanta, and it couldn't have been more exciting! A brand new layout, controversial calls, quick-fixes, and outstanding battles are just a taste of the twists and turns that came about the weekend.

2011 was a pretty spectacular year of drifting for me. Being a Canadian, I got to see a whole heck of a lot of America this year – not only from all the different rounds of Formula Drift that I and the rest of the Drift Posse participated in, but also as a result of a tour that saw me flying around the country for three months. Formula Drift in Seattle is definitely one of my favorite stops on the Formula D tour. It always happens in the middle of the summer, and summertime is the best time to visit Seattle anyway! The event planners at Formula Drift always seem to pick the FD Seattle weekend perfectly, when the rainy state of Washington is blessed with a little break from the gloomy rain, and the sun comes out to put everybody in a good mood!
Since most drift fans outside of Seattle were able to watch the event play-by-play on Justin.TV's Formula D Driftstream, Seattle-based MotorMavens sharpshooter
Yoshi Shindo and I decided we'd post up photographic highlights from the event, based on our own experiences there!

Formula Drift at Long Beach is just around the corner. Yes, it is already April again. As the
MotorMavens Crew gets ready for another season of tire smoking excitement, we wanted to take a look back on the 2010 season and recap the big moments as well as showcase some of the shots that didn't make it into some of the posts.

This evening, Justin Shreeve, Will Roegge, and I went to the unveiling party for Scion Racing’s 2011 tC Formula Drift competition cars, driven by Kenshiro Gushi and Fredric Aasbo. It was awesome! Great food and free drinks are hard to disagree with, especially when amongst the great company that attended. A lot of automotive industry folks were in attendance, so it seemed just like a SEMA Party without the Las Vegas atmosphere. (more…)

I realize that our readers have been patiently waiting for these new photos from our coverage of the IDRC Finale at California Dragway in Fontana, CA. There were quite a few racers in attendance, and quite a few media outlets out there covering the event, so I'm sure there will be lots of great stories and links out on the internet that include everyone's quarter mile times.
Rather than bringing our readers the same stories as
the other guys, I thought I would just publish a few more photos of cars that caught my eye. I'll be the first to admit - I don't know a whole lot about drag racing or Hondas, so if I don't go into as much detail as you might expect from one of my stories about drifting or Japanese nostalgic cars, then please bear with me. Actually, I'd love to invite a Honda Maven to share information with us, and even blog on the site! It would be pretty cool, as I know I certainly have a lot to learn when it comes to drag racing and Hondas...

When it comes to Formula D Las Vegas, what can I say that hasn't been already mentioned? It was hot. Damn hot. Too hot to be outside without air conditioning. I don't understand how Las Vegas locals can handle the incredible heat over there, but they say they're just used to it now. Getting used to it is one thing... but I wonder if they
like it though?
Just like the gypsy camps in the days of old, this year's Las Vegas round of Formula Drift brought thieves out of the woodwork. I was really surprised to find out that former Formula D judge (and current Tanaka Racing Corvette driver)
Alex Pfeiffer's helmet was stolen. I suppose someone was a fan of Alex's Hawaiian print helmet, which had the traditional Hawaiian plumeria flowers painted on one side. The only question I have about that is...
Okay, thieves. Now that you have Alex's helmet, what the hell are you going to do with it? Read more...

Since
Formula D Seattle, all the members of the crew have all been super incredibly busy handling all sorts of things related to the website and promotions, so we decided to hold off on our normal "event coverage" stories so that I could write different type of story - something more of a perspective piece. Normally, we always have Antonio write the event stories, because he seems to have the most experience, and he knows all the details of the drivers and everything. However, this time, the guys asked ME to write about my own personal experiences at FD Seattle.
This year's Formula D Seattle marks my first anniversary as a part of the Motor Mavens Crew. At last year's event, I didn't even know Antonio yet. In fact,
I only met him at the end of the event, when he was out in the parking lot, chillin with our friends
Ian Dillon and
Raymond Vazquez.
I gotta say... this year has been one hell of a ride! Just in this past year, I've attended three other Formula D events, done multiple local drift event coverages, car features, cruises, meets, and everything else in between. As a local Seattle-based contributor for MotorMavens,
my main goal was to blow up the Pacific Northwest scene since I know it has some of the sickest cars around! We also have some highly skilled drifters up here - such as Formula D drivers
Roland Gallagher, Nikolay Konstantinov, Ian Fournier, and
Victor Moore. Since this event was local, there was no doubt that all these guys would be attending. I knew this was going to be a great event!

It's hard to believe that it has already been a week since Formula Drift took over the Streets of Long Beach. This weekend, the famous street course is still home to many a race fan. However this time, Long Beach has been taken over with open wheel racing fans that have been going to the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach for years and years. Since we don't really cover open wheel racing on Motor Mavens, I thought it would be good to post up some more photos from our experiences at Long Beach last weekend. (I know, some of you are thinking, it's about damn time!)
The first photo in our series is from one of the practice sessions. I think the practice sessions were actually a lot cooler and funner to watch at times than some of the tandem bouts, because it felt like freestyle drifting chaos within the confines of the white cement barriers and tire stacks that lined the streets of the LBC.
