Daniel Ressa has been building his Nissan S14 a bit longer then I've been building mine. He's a lot further and lower then I am. LOL! I just can't deny that his S14 is, without exception, one of my favorites.
He's always looking to get rare wheels and little parts that no one really has or wants to pay for. He is all about attention to little details on his car. If you know Danny, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Beyond the super slammed, tucking rear wheels, dragging side skirts, and destroying go-kart plastic barriers - this car actually gets driven hard. Form and function.

Here on MotorMavens, you guys often get to see cars and events through the lenses of our photographers. The cars are the stars. However, this time, I think I would like to show you more of the location where much of this motorsports history happens. This time I would like to feature a place, or maybe show you features of a place, that has its own race pedigree.
Ireland has many good points and many bad points. Over the past few years, the one thing that stands out as a major flaw of this fine island is its inability to provide its islanders with a weather system that 1) they can predict successfully and 2) actually obeys the seasons. When it's summer, let it be sunny and warm and, when it's winter, let it be dark and cold. Here in Ireland, you can never plan for any outdoor activity with any sense of certainty. This is the country that can have any season on any given day of the year and, my friends, that is only a slight exaggeration on my part. However, there is a huge plus to living here, from a "driver's" point-of-view. There is an abundance of mesmerizing roads that snake, dip and jump their way through the lush green countryside. So, I thought you MotorMavens readers might like to come see Ireland through the eyes of a rally enthusiast.

When Ryan Davis of YAER Productions asked me to edit these clips of Ryan Tuerck piloting the Gardella Racing Mobil 1 Nitto Tire Red Bull Chevrolet Camaro during Formula Drift Seattle, I didn’t hesitate whatsoever. I love Ryan’s driving style and now that he’s in an enormous car with tons of power, I really enjoy watching him drive. That being said, the concept for this video was all Ryan Davis’ idea and I can’t take much credit for the awesomeness you’re about to witness. I just edited it. (more…)

Ever say to yourself, "Damn, that dude with the
Bugatti Veyron must get all the women"? Well, I have - and it was more than enough incentive for me to desperately wish I owned one of these engineering marvels...but, the cost of ownership for this 253 mph speed machine is a bit different from owning a 1992
Honda Civic. So, if you're actually in the market for a brand new Bugatti Veyron, read this before you sign that massive check over to Bugatti. And, if you're reading this and you actually own a Veyron, I'll take a moment to ask you to please be my bestest friend.

As some of you may (or may not) know, I'm definitely not from
California. So when I found out that I would be going to California for a week, I knew that I'd have to check out as much stuff as I could possibly get around to checking out while I was there. Usually, when I go somewhere in the name of drift events, I don't really get to act like a tourist very much since the team is always busy taking care of race car stuff - but there was no race car stuff this time so I knew this was going to be my best chance to really see some cool stuff.
Once I got into town, my buddy
Nick Soo suggested that we check out the
Rucksters Customs garage. My experience with
Honda Ruckus scooters was fairly limited, to say the least. I had seen a dude cruising on a fairly unmodified one at
Drift Mania, and then this year at
Formula Drift in Florida, I saw a stretched out Ruckus for the first time cruising around the paddock area. I was definitely intrigued but I was unable to get a really good look at the machine.
As soon as we pulled up to the Rucksters shop, it was clear we were at the right place. I figure that when your front door is this legit, you
must have some awesome stuff behind it. We were greeted by shop manager
Hai who was hanging out at the front counter, and he was more than happy to show us around the place and really school us on some crazy Ruckus knowledge.

This past weekend, all the core enthusiasts in Southern California's Japanese car scene gathered once again on the intersection of First Street and Alameda in the Little Tokyo area of Downtown LA for the annual
Nisei Showoff celebration. The event was super fun as always - when I showed up at the event, it felt like a big block party with several friends all gathered around different cars, admiring the immaculate engine bays, or trying to figure out new wheel sizing and/or suspension setups.

When it comes to automotive lifestyle, some people prefer hitting racetrack events, and some people prefer going to car shows. While the members of the MotorMavens crew definitely love going to the racetrack, we also realize that it's important to go to all kinds of indoor and outdoor car shows to promote our website to people that may not have seen it before.
When we were contacted by the organizers of the
Spocom Tour to work with them as a promotional partner, we were definitely excited by the opportunities it would bring! Although the Southern California-based members of our MotorMavens Crew gained a little experience in throwing and promoting a big outdoor automotive event (
Mass Appeal at Ken Block's Irwindale Gymkhana event), we had little to no experience in seeing what it's like to run a big indoor car show. We thought it would be extremely interesting to see the inner workings of a big car show series from people who had a track record of doing it, and so began the relationship between MotorMavens and Spocom.
The first thing we noticed about the Spocom Tour - it didn't feel like a normal car show from our standpoint! It felt like a big, fun party - a hype party that just happened to have a bunch of friends and cars crowded in between the vendor exhibits!

In the tuner world, the
AE86 platform should be considered one of the most important and influential gems that has come from Japanese engineering and research. Even with today's sophisticated technology being used to develop high-performance machines with more than twice the power of a
Hachi-Roku, it's hard to forget what this amazing little car did for the general public. Despite the fact that the machine didn't have some of the better features and strengths of some of the other cars its age and younger, it had one great sense of appeal to it: the price.
The common man didn't have to settle with just dreaming about the AE86 and gazing over pictures of its bodywork in magazines. No, instead, the common man could actually get behind the wheel of one since a new, fully-loaded
Corolla GT-S would cost on average $12,000 at the time. And though AE86 became the last generation of the affordable front-engine, rear-wheel-drive compact from
Toyota (until the
FR-S/
FT-86, we hope), it is still remembered, still used and still loved by the common man. And that love is why the Bay Area joins together each year to celebrate this iconic vehicle. I give you The Bay Area 8-6 Day meet!
